Mytheria

Mytheria is a card game, where you use strategy and timing to defeat your opponent in
a head-to-head battle. Explore the five colors of Power, play challenges to unlock cards,
and build your own decks with the Deck Builder.

Cards

Ok, let's take a look at one of your cards for this mission: Veteran Mercenary

At the top of the card is the name, and the
type. This card is a Creature, which means it
can attack.

This large number on the right of the card is
the card's Strength, which represents both
how much "life" it has, as well as how much
damage it can do. This card is a 2, which
means it will hit for 2 damage points when
attacking, and can also absorb 2 points of
damage.

Your turn!

Ok, now it's your turn again!
Hint #1: You can mouse over your cards at any time to see how much
power they cost.
Hint #2: If you don't attack with a Creature, it can be used to block. Try it!

Challenges

The rest of the campaign missions will take you through all the colors of
cards in the game, and will introduce more complicated cards.
Once you complete mission 6, the Challenges and Deck Builder are
unlocked. This will let you build your own advanced decks to take on new
and more difficult opponents!

Tutorial

Mytheria is a turn-based card game . If you haven't played a card game
like this before, it might be a bit confusing, so we'll show you the basics
first!

Blocking

You can block this attack, if you like.
If you want to block, just pick the creature you want to block with. Each
card will then deal damage to each other. For example, a Veteran
Mercenary (strength 2) blocking a Scythian Footsoldier (strength 1) will
take 1 damage, and deal 2 damage to the Footsoldier (killing it)
If you don't want to block the attack (which sometimes is smart), just click
the "Don't block" button.

Attacking

After you're done playing cards, the attack round happens.
Each Creature can attack once, if you want it to. Once a Creature attacks, it
can't do anything else until your next turn.
To attack, you just click on the card. Click on your Scythian Footsoldier
now to make it attack (and do 1 damage).

Let's play!

The first thing you will do is increase your power. You can do this at the
beginning of your turn. For this mission, our cards are all Red, so we only
need to increase Red power.
When the next screen pops up, click the Red power icon:

These red dots are the card's Power cost. In this
case, there are two red dots, which means this card
costs 2 Red power in order to play.
Power is like spell points, or mana. It regenerates at
the beginning of each turn.

Creatures

"Why do creatures attack one at a time?"
If you attack with a Creature, you can't use it to block on your opponent's
turn. And vice versa.
If both sides have a few Creatures out, you have to decide -- what do I
attack with? And what do I block with? And when? If a Creature gets
blocked, it doesn't do any damage to the player. So, one strategy is to
attack with something small first, get blocked, and open up the hole for a
big creature.

More than just red!

This mission will introduce a new color to your deck, white.  This means
you'll have to increase both red and white power.
With some of these cards, you can use any kind of power you want.
For example, if a card says  "             + 1", this means that it requires 2 red
power, plus one extra power of any color you choose. (In this case, red or
white).

Your cards

Here are your cards.  Some of them are creatures, some of them can
heal you (like Medic), some make creatures stronger (Battle Cry), etc.
To see what a card does, you just roll the mouse over it.
Let's play the Scythian Footsoldier card (all the way on the left).
Just click on it, now.

Modifiers

Some cards, such as Rally or Hypermobility, are modifiers. For example,
Rally gives a target card +2 Strength.
When you play a modifier card, the cursor will change to a target, and you'll
then select the card you wish to attach the modifier to.
Some modifiers are permanent, others only last for a turn -- read the text
on the card to find out the effect.

The game

You are at the bottom of the screen, and your opponent is at the top. The
goal is to get their Life down to zero, using cards to attack.
If you run out of Life or Cards, you lose!

Turn finished!

Ok, your first turn is finished. Now your opponent will get a chance to play
cards and attack.

Power

Ok, now we have 2 power. Each card requires power to be played. Red
cards need red power, black cards need black, etc. You can increase it
once per turn.
When you increase power, you're increasing your maximum power. Each
turn your power will reset to whatever your current maximum is. So, go
ahead and use it all every turn, it'll come back.

Special attributes

Some cards have special text in the corner, indicating that they can't
attack, or they are unblockable. There are also two terms that might not
be familiar:
Penetration - If this card is blocked, any extra damage above the
blocker's strength will "penetrate" and hit the player.
Assist - This card can be selected as an extra blocker, to "assist" another
card. The damage will be divided between them.

You now have a Creature on the board!
Creatures live in a separate row, above your cards. Each one can attack,
once per turn. The big number on the card indicates how much damage it
will do.
Now, let's see if we can make this Footsoldier attack!
