(a Civil War battleground) located in Sucker Hill State Park, 42 miles east of Calling Bluffs on S.R. 99

Sucker Hill history
sUCKER hILL IS STEEPED in civil war
history. it was here, ON THE
AFTERNOON OF sEPTEMBER 12TH 1864,
THAT CONFEDERATE COLONEL mason dixon
lost his entire regiment TO
union forces in A blatantly
unreasoned attempt to
hold them off until
reinforcements arrived...
which never did.
in what must have been
supreme remorse, dixon -
the lone survivor among his
company- hung himself from
the only tree on the hill, now
known as 'hill tree'.
to this day you can
still see the remnants
of the rope he used on
the hill tree, which oddly
enough started to die
the same day colonel
dixon did!
