Hi! I'm a handy-dandy pointer! |
I'm going to teach you how to draw something... |
Convert it to a symbol... |
And make it move across the screen! Yipee! |
Click on the CIRCLE button to draw a circle! |
Click on the arrow button and select the circle! |
Click on the INSERT button to view menu options! |

bal |
ball |
This is the default behavior. You will use it for most of your images. |
Only select "button" if you want to be able to click on your ball, much like this word bubble. |
Select "movie clip" if you want your ball to be an animation that behaves independent of the main timeline above. |
In this case, we are making it a still image, so "graphic" is fine. |
Click "OK" to complete the conversion! |
Now that your circle is a symbol, it is a reference to the circle you drew. |
Sorta like desktop shortcuts to programs that exist elsewhere on your computer. |
The circle you drew is in your "library" window. |
If you change it, all instances of it in the movie will reflect your change. |
Note that you are on frame one of your timeline. There are currently no other frames. |
Click on frame 10 to highlight it. |
Keyframe |
F6 |
Choose the option to insert a keyframe. |
You now have a keyframe on frame 10. |
A keyframe is the same as saying, "Hey! Something happens on this frame in this layer! |
Right now, frame 1 is a ball, and frame 10 is a ball. |
When you create a keyframe, it is created with the same properties as the keyframe before it. |
Frame 1 is the last keyframe before 10, so every frame between 1-9 will be the same as frame 1. |
Frame 10 can be different, however, because it is a keyframe. |
I just dragged the circle over a few inches. |
Now, frames 1 through 9 have the circle sitting over to the left, but frame 10 has the circle in the middle. |
Frames 1 and 10 are the keyframes. Flash can calculate the movement between them. |
This is called "tweening", and only works on grouped objects and symbols. |
It also only works if your object is alone in its layer (the circle is the only symbol in layer 1). |
Click on frame 1 to highlight it. |
Double clicking on this frame opens the "Frame Properties" window. |
This window has 4 tabs: Label, Sound, Actions, and Tweening. |
Click on the "tweening" tab, and use the drop down menu to select "motion" instead of "none." |
Flash will now calculate the movement between frames 1 and 10. |
Your animation should now work! Hurray! |
File |
Use the "Export Movie" command under the File menu to finish the job! |
Now let's get back to the main menu! |
