Credits

Garbage
This is the level you will get
for flagging badly. It is possible
to fix this though by flagging correctly.
Also note, this whistle carries no weight

Normal
The whistle you start on when you
first join the site. Nothing too special
about it though.

Bronze
You gain this for flagging well if you've
moved up from normal that is.
This carries more weight than the
Normal Whistle

Silver
A little harder to get than the Bronze
whistle, this does carry more
weight than bronze as well.

Gold
When you've made it this far, you
might as well go all the way. This level
carries quite a lot of weight.

Deity
This is the highest level, you can't
go any futher. This carries the most
weight, so use it well ;)

Whistles

Abusive reviews can be flagged, in this section, I am going to
give you some tips on what to look for. As well as a few pointers
to people who write abusive reviews, so it's a win/win section.
First of all, lets talk about the options on a review.

The green + is a vote for helpful, you don't gain points for this, but it's
nice to give to people who write good reviews.

Flagging Reviews

This red - is a vote for usless, again you gain no points for this but
you can use this if you don't like a reivew but it doesn't violate any rules.

The yellow x at the end is the vote for abusive, you can gain whistle points
with this if the review is deleted. However, if you flagged the review
incorrectly, then you will lose a whistle point.

But you don't want to lose whistle points for incorrect flagging do you.
Well, you might if you like a broken whistle but then why would
you be reading this.
Both flash and audio attact abusive reviews, be sure to look at both
for reviews. Generally you will find abusive reviews on the lower
quality work and spam, these are easy points.
Look for flash with titles like: "hot anime HENTAI" or "FUCK you all!!"
and simler titles, they attract people to come and insult the author.
If you review those, avoid being insulting and stick to the point of
the flash or just ignore it.

The audio portal doesn't tend to follow the same pattern with spam
and titles, though there are some with abusive titles. Just consider
looking at the lower scoring work. Other users seem to find it
'cool' to try and make the author look bad in a review.
It's not just insults that are flaggable though. You should also look
out for reviews that give 10's but don't say anything about the flash.
For example: "10/10 because you asked me to"

Much of what is flaggable can be found in the review guidlines. A link
is in the links part of this flash.
Now I will just give some review examples and you think if it's
abusive or not, click next to see if it is or not.

Example 1:

This review was abusive, although you can get away with calling a flash
gay, you can't get away with isulting the author and telling them
that you hope they die.
Reviews should give some insight into the flash, so call this flash
gay by all means, but please just tell me why you think it's
gay, that way I might be able to fix it's sexuality.

Example 2:

This review is NOT abusive, even though they say they are supprised, they
haven't said "BLAM THIS" or "This shouldn't have passed!" and
the review looks to talk about the flash, giving some form of tips to
the author.
My drawing does suck by the way, let me show you.

Example 3:

I hopr you got this one right! This review is flaggable, it's not abusive but
it sure is spammy. No one gains anything from this, it's just junk, same as
just saything the word "good" with no reason as to why.
I would say "See summary" to also be flaggable because there is no
content to the actual review in that sense. Still, anything that is one word
or just a smily I generally see as being junk.

Example 4:

Well, yes, this might say something about the flash in it, but it is still
abusive, I also went over the top to make it easier for you!
The reason this is flaggable is because the reviewer is answering
another review in theirs, which you shouldn't do, you are
just suppost to stick to the flash.
Also I'm not a girl, the preson who wrote that review is an idiot!!!

Example 5:

This was easy, ascii art is not allowed in the review space, it's spammy,
even if it gives a 10 and some decent points, it's most likly flaggable
and you can check that with the rages topic if you are unsure.
This example was poor yes, but even if I had writtin for the example:
"Good job, you did well with the flash but the sound quality was
pretty poor, work on that."
It would still be flaggable just for the ascii art.

Okay, so most of those examples where easy, well they give you an
idea I hope. If not, I had fun writting them! You can always post a review
link in Rages topic if you are unsure of the review, they will be
happy to help you out I'm guessing.

Flagging Flash

In this section we are going to talk about the flagging opinions for
a flash, I say talk but it's more you read. But that aside, read on!
You can only blow your whistle on a flash when it is Under Judgement,
if you click next, I have put a screen crop of what you see on
and Under Judgment flash, just so you can see for yourself.
By the way, I'm not calling you stupid by showing you, I'm just
trying to cover everything here.

You see you have 3 flagging options as well as some other information
there, like a link to the FAQ and a review link. But those aren't important
for this, so we'll ignore those, they don't exist.
When you click one of the flagging options, you will be greated with a
nice looking textbox, where you put in why you flagged it. Try to be as
helpful as you can though.

Now, let's talk about the reasons.
This movie is stolen. For this you should probably link to the original
in your reason and other thoughts on why you think it's stolen.
Somethings to look at are the authors comments, if it says
"I didnT MAKE THIS" then it's definatly stolen, lol.
Also, if the flash as an email address on it, be sure to look at where
it's at, remember the main screen shows the last part of the authors
email ;)

So if the flash says: johndoe@hotmail.com and the submitter has used
*@gmail.com then that could be a sign it's stolen. Other commen
things to note about stolen flash.
- Size is sometimes off
- Obvious edits made to the flash
- It's an exclusive flash (But not to Newgrounds)
- It's been uploaded to Newgrounds before
Now let's move onto another option.

This movie is malicious (e.g. auto-spawns pop-up windows).
Okay so this has already given you some examples next to it, which
is helpful. Pretty much any flash that tries to change your settings
or download something you don't want or spawns popups can
be called malicious.
Even a flash that crashes your computer, that would also be malicious.
It's hard to give some telltale signs for this kind of flash, since you
generally can't tell much about it till you've seen it.

This movie is unsuitable
(e.g. hardcore adult, porn slideshow, hateful, illegal).
Again you've been given examples for this option too, so it pretty much
explains itself. Any flash that has hardcore adult porn is illigal, though
I belive drawn porn is fine, lol.
Slideshows too, with no activity, quizes are allowed, a link to the
submission rules will be in the links section for your reading.
Hateful flash are generally havily racist ones or such and illegal
are obviously ones that break the law! Like child porn for
a simple example.

Well that pretty much covers all the options for flagging flash. There are
no easy ways to gain points for flagging flash. Don't try to abuse
the flagging system either, you'll probably get deleted for it. Which
I'm sure you probably don't want.
Not much more to say on this now, what to do if a flash that violates
the rules is mentioned in the other part of this guide.

Well here I'm just going to add anything I think you might find
helpful that I didn't think I could put in the other areas.
1. When you reach Deity in whistle level, you might think that's it
but you shouldn't stop just because you reached that level.
What's the point getting that far if you won't put it to use?
2. If you have a Garbage whistle, the best thing to do is look for
easy points, don't go for things you are unsure of. Go for the
obvious stuff like "Fuck you and die" and the like.

3. If you saw a flash that passed when it should have been flagged
then it is suggested that you email WadeFulp at this email:
wade@newgrounds.com including the URL to the flash
and the problem with it. Be as helpful as you can.
4. If you are unsure if a review is flaggable, you can ask on
the Rages topic or you can just leave it, but I'd suggest
asking someone who knows. An abusive review
doesn't help anyone.

5. If you see a flash with an abusive title or somewhat misleading,
don't go onto it and give the author an abusive review, it's pointless.
As well as you're review most likely getting deleted because
of it, so yeah, just think you should know that.
6. Whistle points are only known by the admins who set them,
users will never know what they are, to prevent abuse. People
have guessed on the number of flags it takes, but it's not
verified by anyone I don't believe.

7. Be fair and honest, even if you like the author of a flash, if you see
problems with it, point them out and point out the things you like.
It's your choice at the end of the day with a review, but it's always
probably best to be fair.
8. Use the Helpful/Useless buttons, you might not get points for them
but it does give people an idea on the quality of the review. I
always use the Helpful button on reviews that I think help me
on my own flash, even if they only give it a 2, it doesn't matter.

9. It's not a contest, you don't need to go on crazy flagging runs just
to get a Deity whistle. It's not a contest, you don't win anything. Have
a friendly contest with a friend if you want, but remember, you're
flagging to help Newgrounds, not yourself.
