Reno Zirconium built his first robot at the age of 15, a little robotic spider which became the prototype for SPY-der models later in his life. In grade school he drew dynamic and complex diagrams of robots he would later make. His teachers and classmates were amazed. He was outcast and deemed a nerd, but he did not care. In high school he took mechanics, advanced math and architecture to begin his background in the robotics field. After high school, he studied robotics in numerous colleges and went on to university, where he attained a master's degree in the field of robotics. He later completed another course and attained a master's in biotechnology. His schooling completed, Reno Zirconium started up a little company, entitled System. System started out as a small robotics company, with few workers working on |

original robotic creations. Reno ZIrconium knew what he wanted and how he wanted it accomplished, and his will was always done. System began to grow larger and larger in size and net worth, and many robotic companies were thrust into bankrupcy. One corporation resisted all takeovers, the Attix Robotics Corp. With some "gentle persuasion" by the early Soldier models, the president of the corporation agreed to merge with System. Systematix was thus coined as the name of this powerful robotics conglomerate. Reno fired all of the Attix employees (president included) and replaced the workforce with his own robotic breed. His robotic creations began to become more and more advanced and could function without sleep or nourishment of any sort thanks to radinergy, a scientifical theory proved by Zirconium himself... |

This energy was produced by harnessing the alpha, beta and gamma particles radiated from the surrounding matter of the units. The lilttlest amounts, like those radiated from humans or low-cost metals would fuel the robots for hours thanks to particle accelerating mechanisms located in the robotic eye of the robots, their green and blue-covered nervous systems. The mech's memory cards were also located in this nervous system, with 3 terabytes of memory per card. WIthout the accelerator and memory cards, the robots could not function. Over time, Reno Zirconium's once small hobby became a Corporative Empire. He based his corporation in Earth's largest city, which he re-named System City. The police, the firemen, the swat teams, were all replaced by robots. The humans living in this city were quarantined. Robotic guards were... |

He focused on producing war machines, the new Soldier 01s, the SPY-ders, the War-sps, the Senti-pedes, the SN8-kes, and the Go-liaths. He was not satisfied with robotics however, he wanted more instruments of power. Thus, project illuminati was formed. In the city, people began to resist the guards, new corporations formed all over System City and little bands of rebels and protagonists began to fight the empire. Many failed and many others still stand in defiant opposition to Reno's forces. Before forming Illuminati, Professor Zirconium dissapp- eared for 20 years. "We've never seen the old Reno again, the man who returned wasn't Reno, if he was a man at all..." When the Professor returned, he was different. He had acquired and mastered psychic powers and used them at will. He could create barriers of energy, manipulate energy to move objects and if he tried very hard, focus energy into one place. In a way, he was much like Lonesoul. Many assasination attempts on his life ended in failure as he stopped the bullets and energy blasts with his inexplicable barriers. He studied the occult arts of magicke, taking leave to Egypt and other ancient ruins to study the past knowledge. But the Systematix Corporation was once again not the only corporation battling for control of the city, new groups were rising to power once more... |

After mastering robotics, and building a veritable army of mechanizations, Reno Zirconium wanted more. After returning from his 20 year absence, he wanted to find more people with powers like his. At first, adults with powers, pyrokinesis, electrokinesis, hydrokinesis, telekinesis and telepathy were found, but they proved frail under Reno's tests. They were all executed by Zirconium's minions. Reno Zirconium extended his reach to children because he found them to have younger minds, which enabled them to learn more, faster, and they had much more potential energy then the worn-out old adults. The children were stripped from their System City homes, their memories erased or downloaded to databases, their hair dyed grey. Many of the children were weak and flawed and many were executed. Several special children were found in the program, however. Lonesoul was one of these children. |

Lonesoul - Episode 1: A young grey-haired boy is attacked on a rooftop in System City by several soldier guards. He fights them with martial arts and psychic abilities. Lonesoul - Episode 2: Silent robotic assasins attempt to murder Lonesoul while he sleeps. He takes on a swarm of SPY-ders, and several War-sps. After the inspection of the command memory of one of the downed War-sps, he discovers that he is an asset to a covert project. He is unable to escape the towering Go-liath that comes to return him to the facility. |

Go-liath model: Goliath-544 class: destroyer The Go-liath is a very new model of which Lonesoul did not even know of. Only 5 were made to-date. They are huge machines with insane power. These metallic beasts have the ability to destroy whole cities by a combined effort of their missiles and gamma-cannons. They are not to be taken lightly. |

John Charles Pearson was born on April 11, 1958. By the age of 15, John had watched every Charleton Heston movie including The Omega Man, 3 times. Charleton Heston was an inspiration to him and helps him find his voice during voice acting. During his childhood, John had to move often because of his father's work (he worked with a railroad company) and was in various schools and places. John was selected by the director, Adam Pearson because Adam felt he could show the part in the exact way that he wanted it and was perfect for the role. He enjoys playing guitar and listening to the classics of rock and roll. He is also an artist and enjoys painting when he has time. He works as a manager in an art gallery in Montréal, Québec. John makes his debut in voice acting, in Lonesoul - Episode 3 and is planned to return for the next episode. |

APP: Interesting! So can you tell us a little about the story of the new episode? APP: directing and voice acting process in this episode, as opp- osed to the others, tell us about that. Adam: Ah yes. In the other episodes, I wasn't really there during the recording process for all of the voice actors. For exa- mple, during the production of L1, I simply emailed Max Chau (who plays the Soldiers in L1 and L3) his lines and some instructions on how I wanted them said eg. agress- ive, and he would record them and send them back to me for mastering and such. During the production of Lone- soul 3, all of the voice actors came to my sound-studio in my basement and I was there to give them instructions and to really help direct them to what I wanted. Adam: the effort that was put into it. I think the voice acting has very much improved since Lonesoul 1 and it is plain to see when you watch the new episode, I think. APP: We're looking forward to it! Can you tell us about where Lonesoul is headed? Adam: Well, I don't want to give away too much... but I have be- en planning Lonesoul - Episode 4 from the start and I am looking forward to making it, but I am not yet ready to m- ake it. As you might have noticed, I have tended to relea- se one new episode every year (L1-2001, L2-2002, L3- 2003) so I will probably end up making it next year. I am still planning out the future episodes, but the script for L4 is finished and ready when I am. I also hope to make a Lonesoul game when the series is finished. |

John: Back then that I was destined to play a role of that magni- tude. APP: Interesting! How did you find the voice acting process? John: I found it very strenuous. My voice was very dry, my ears were ringing from the director saying "Do it again" and "You used a different voice than from the previous line, try another take" not to mention the constant slaps. You have to remember, we're not talking Spielberg here, the director was a littler nazi, he wanted immediate results. You see, the film was already four weeks behind schedule due to irresponsibility on the sound masterer's (James Kerr) part (In the end, Adam ended up doing the mastering) and a little bit of pain from the director was called for, and as an artist, I could understand that. |

APP: How do you see Zirconinum as a father figure? John: Actually, he's quite tender, and his motives are quite sinc- ere for an evil no-goodnik, wishing only complete submis- sion from the people that work for him and world dominat- ion, much like our fair-haired director, a true task master. (laughs) APP: Were there any benefits to doing the role? John: Oh yes, the direcotr would let me use my computer for an extra 15 minutes if I was cooperative. (laughs) APP: (laughs) What did you think or or what what was your imp- ression of the graphic representation of Professor Zirconi- um? John: Butt-ugly, but he had a nice head of hair. |

APP: You say that the director was such a taskmaster, tell us about that? John: Well, I'm sure that his goal was to create quality work and perhaps I hit him one too many times with that inflateable "Bozo the Clown" when he was a youngers, so I guess all is good, "render onto Caesar what is Caesar's". APP: What was it like seeing your voice in another person's bo- dy when you watched the finished film? John: Well it was quite fantastic! The artistic level of the produc- tion was quite beyond my expectations. Adam's dedicati- on to the restrictions of the media created astounding re- sults. These results facilitated the delivery of my charact- er, so to answer your question, it was like watching Rocky and Bullwinkle for the first time and wishing I was Rocky |

John: the flying squirrell. APP: So, this film will be posted on www.newgrounds.com what is your opinion of that website? John: It is a vehicle which encourages creativity. The fact that they showcase flash movies at various levels of skill, nev- ermind the extremely high-level gratuitous-violence, is po- sitive as it promotes art, and anything that promotes art and graphic expression, is a good thing. APP: Where do you go from here? John: I'm committed to Lonesoul - Episode 4 and of course I'm beholding to my thirty-five year contract to APP. So, for the time being , I'll keep working the best work I'm capab- le of and if I'm lucky one day, I'll replace that movie trailer voice-over guy. |

elcome to the Behind the Scenes section of the Special Features of Lonesoul - Episode 3. Here you will find some inside-information and comments from the director/animator/writer/voice actor Adam Pearson. The Beginning The original script for Lonesoul - Episode 3 was written several days after the com pletion of Lonesoul - Episode 2. I had wrote it on paper, and had done some story- boarding for it when one day, disaster struck. The script was lost. I had been very happy with that script and was sure I could never write a better one. I searched for the script for what seemed like ages and turned up with nothing. I told myself I wouldn't make the episode until I found the original script. 3 or 4 months later I de- cided to try re-writing the script. I thought of everything that I had written in the original script and tried my best to incorporate all of the old elements and add a... |

The Beginning (continued) ...few new scenes, the dialogue in several of these new scenes was a tad on the humourous side. I was happy with the new script and so went on to doing some basic concept art, which you will find in the Gallery section of the Special Featur- es. I was happy with the results thus far, and had incorporated a new blue/grey colour-scheme into the episode. As you probably know, it takes a lot of different elements to make a good movie and it is important to take the time to enhance these elements, one by one to make sure they improve upon these elements one at a time and with careful care. While watching Lonesoul 2, I realised that the graphics were a tad sketchy and the animation felt like a flash movie, nothing more. In Lonesoul 3, I took lots of time and effort souping-up and smoothing and fixing up the graphics to make them straight and cold, like the atmosphere of the episode. I also designed the new character model for Professor Zirconium as well as the new robot models (Soldier 02, Pummel-Mech, Servi-Bot) and was happy... |

The Beginning (continued) ...with how things were coming along. I could feel that this episode was going to be a big step for me in my animation career. I started work on some more finalized images and realised what I had was movie-worthy. The Inept Sound Masterer Some more work was done on characters and such and Alex Bezuska, who made the Project: Winter movies, agreed to help me with the walk cycles of the soldiers and of Lonesoul. I appreciate his work and find that he did a very good job. After this, I made the opening credits after searching for hours for the perfect music for the Episode. I made the opening credits with Alex's finished credits but then stopped, because there was nothing else I could do without the voice acting. The Inept Sound Masterer (continued) they turned out. I did some further work on backgrounds and such (even some from the final scene with Professor Zirconium) and souped them up using Adobe Photoshop, which I had only recently acquired. I worked on these backgrounds and character models while I attempted to schedule Max Chau, to record his lines for his characters, the Soldier 02 model robots. He was a busy man, but I eventu- ally landed him here in my little studio to record his lines, offering to pay him in pi- zza. We recorded all of his lines in a two hour period, laughing repeatedly at some of the takes he recorded (note: I have all of these blooper lines still and am thinking of making a blooper movie using them, I originally planned to include it in these Special Features but decided not to because of filesize restraints. With Max's lines completed, I was ready to continue the movie.... but something else happened, James Kerr, a friend of mine offered to master all of the audio for the film. The Inept Sound Masterer (continued) and I quickly grasped the occasion and brought him to the studio. I had previously typed up all of his lines, referring to the hand-written script, and I printed out a copy so he would have easy access during recording. We started recording at 7 p.m. and what followed was the most strenuous and hard sessions I have ever gone through in my life. It took a good 20 minutes for us to find the right voice for Zirconium, and after that we would take between 3 to 5 takes of each and every line. At 10:00 or 10:30 around that time, we finished and it was such a relief to be finished.* The next day, I mastered all of his lines, a process which took around 3 to 4 hours because of the length of his lines and such, and I added effects to Lonesoul and Zirconium's lines from that final scene. I was excited by the way the movie was *contrary to John's humourous interview, I never hit or slapped him during the recording session! |

The Inept Sound Masterer (continued) coming along, and was staying true to my vision of how I wanted it to be. It was nearing completion.... Final Problems and Touches And so after a total of 4 months and a half of hard work, I had almost finished the full movie. I finished another segment and the credits, and was very happy with how everything turned out. I next moved on to work on the Special Features and such, but there were a lot of glitches and I spent several days trying to fix everything (glitches like music would start playing for no reason, etc. this led to the creation of the music controls) but in the end everything turned out great and at the end of the five month period, you have what you are now looking at! -Adam Pearson |
