The Higan is a endless flower garden where there are no night and day, no seasons, just a gentle warm light that covers the place. All people do here is to await the Enma's judgement. They don't sleep, don't eat, and don't talk. All they do is wait, and by doing so they realize that they are dead."; _root.hig2 = "It's okay if you were sent to the Netherworld, but if you descended into Hell you'll fall outside the cycle of reincarnation and shall never enjoy the sights of cherry blossoms and the taste of sake again."; _root.hig3 = "Although there is a chance that the dead can breath again before they cross the river, once they make it across they cannot come back to life. "; _root.sar1 = "The Sanzu River is the mist-shrouded river that dead souls must cross in order to reach Higan, where they will await judgment. Part of the riverbank is accessible from Gensokyo, even though the river's source, mouth and opposite bank lie outside it. Only the dead can cross the river on a shinigami's boat if they can afford to pay. Everything except shinigami and their boats will sink. "; _root.sar2 = "Komachi Onozuka may be seen ferrying souls here when she isn't slacking off."; _root.sar3 = "In Japanese Buddhist tradition, the Sanzu is said to have three crossings which vary in perilousness depending on the amount of sin a soul committed during his or her lifetime. However, this concept is not used in Touhou. Instead Komachi uses her power of distance manipulation to vary the width of the river according to the souls' sinfulness."; _root.yom1 = "Youkai Mountain is reputedly the greatest mountain in Gensokyo. At the base of it live the Kappa, such as Nitori Kawashiro, and at the top are the Tengu. It's actually such a dangerous place full of youkai, some of which don't like humans, that humans are normally unable to come here."; _root.yom2 = "This mountain is protected by the white wolf tengu, such as Momiji Inubashiri, who patrol it. Also among the tengu living here is Aya Shameimaru, as well as other newspaper-writing tengu. The tengu chief is Lord Tenma. Lately a new arrival from the outside world, the Moriya Shrine, has appeared on the mountain along with a lake. Sanae Kochiya, Kanako Yasaka, and Suwako Moriya all live at or near here. Both the kappa and tengu have come to accept Kanako as a resident god and now live in peace."; _root.yom3 = "Rumors say that within the mountain exists a large hollow cavity where a futuristic utopia just like the outside world is being built"; _root.mos1 = "The Moriya Shrine originated from the outside world and was transported into Gensokyo by Kanako Yasaka during the start of the events of Mountain of Faith."; _root.mos2 = "The shrine is now located somewhere near the top of Youkai Mountain by a lake that was also transported with it. As noted in Silent Sinner in Blue, a distinctively thick shimenawa is hung across the entrance of the shrine building, bigger than the one at the Hakurei Shrine."; _root.mos3 = "This shrine is home to Sanae Kochiya, whose role is similar to a Shrine Maiden, and its resident gods Kanako Yasaka and Suwako Moriya. "; _root.rol1 = "The Sanzu River flows on the other side of the mountains, but you must travel down a certain road before you get there. That is the Road of Liminality. If you don't go down this road, you can't reach the Sanzu River. You can walk this road while still alive, but mainly it is the dead who travel it on their way to the river. One might think that surely a road travelled by the dead is a lonely place, but this is not true at all. A number of stands catering to the dead are lined up along it, and it's just as busy as if it were at a shrine festival. Living people who like festivals often come here as well."; _root.rol2 = "As to the question of how a road the dead travel can have merchant's stands along it, the finances of hell had reached the point where it could no longer sustain itself merely from the ferrying fees levied on the departed, so it opened stands along the Road of Liminality in an attempt to get any more money. As a result, hell can receive some money even from the dead who aren't sentenced to go there, and from the living."; _root.rol3 = "However, those who run the stands are all criminals who were sentenced to hell, so it's said many fall victim to their tricks"; _root.mue1 = "Muenzuka a small area enclosed by trees. This place is where the most dangerous humans and youkai of Gensokyo are. It is a graveyard for those without relatives and because many of those beings are from the outside world, the growing inclination towards the outside world has begun to gradually loosen the magic barrier."; _root.mue2 = "It's said that when the flowers of the purple cherry blossoms growing there fall, the deceased of Muenzuka will be released from their doubts and wanderings, and will finally progress to the Road of Liminality"; _root.mue3 = "This might be the most perfect place for flower viewing, but the sorrowful sights create such sadness that no one really consideres doing it here."; _root.ror1 = "Most humans/souls that get from the outside world into Gensokyo end up at this road. Many youkai can be found around the road, waiting for a human 'meal'."; _root.ror2 = "As those who've committed suicide walk along this path when it is covered with Higan Flowers, the toxins will swirl around their bodies, something wondrous yet unpleasant takes place, in that their will to survive will swell and surge. "; _root.ror3 = "Depressed people, spiteful people bearing grudges, and criminals, etc. are the favorite foods of youkai. Here there are plenty of those kinds of people. "; _root.net1 = "The Netherworld is the land where ghosts reside after death. Apparently it's a distinct part of Gensokyo, but is separated from the Land of the Living by a strong barrier."; _root.net2 = "The barrier is situated at a great gate high above the clouds. Unfortunately, like most barriers in Gensokyo, this barrier is rather vague, and, while it's powerful enough to keep people from passing directly through, there's nothing preventing people from flying over it. Thus, the Border between Death and Life is quite thin."; _root.net3 = "During the events of Perfect Cherry Blossom, the barrier was weakened by Yukari Yakumo and had to be repaired by her afterwards. Apparently, she never got around to repairing it, as the boundary continues to thin in the summer of Imperishable Night."; _root.hak1 = "Hakugyokurou is a ghost shrine overlooking the netherworld. It is well known among the afterlife realms for its cherry blossom gardens, and many ghosts come to see them every spring. "; _root.hak2 = "The term Hakugyokurou comes from Chinese legends of the Tang Dynasty. It was said to be the place where artists go after death. Li He, a poet in those days, heard a voice in a dream he had as he was dying. The voice said: 'Hakugyokurou has been completely built, so come and write down its details.' The story is the beginning of Hakugyokurou. Yuyuko Saigyouji is the lady of Hakugyokurou, and Youmu Konpaku acts as its gardener. The massive youkai cherry tree, the Saigyou Ayakashi, can also be found lying dormant in the gardens of Hakugyokurou."; _root.hak3 = "Hakugyokurou was the location for the final stage of Perfect Cherry Blossom."; _root.prr1 = "The Prismriver Residence (or 'Poltergeist Mansion') is home to the Prismriver Sisters. It was formerly the mansion of a human aristocrat in the outer world, but was transported into Gensokyo by the invocation of an unknown ritual. "; _root.prr2 = "Not much is known about the mansion itself beyond the fact that its inhabitants are noisy and that its precincts are probably dangerous to mentally unprepared visitors."; _root.prr3 = "Although the poltergeists that reside within are clearly not alive, the mansion seems to exist outside of the Netherworld."; _root.sdm1 = "The Scarlet Devil Mansion is the Scarlet family's fancy European-style mansion. It is located on a small island in the middle of the Misty Lake at the foot of the Youkai Mountain. It has relatively few windows for a building its size, which is a beneficial feature, considering the nature of its main tenants, Remilia and Flandre Scarlet (they happen to be vampires). In addition to the vampire sisters, the mansion also houses a large staff working under the Scarlet name. The most powerful staff members are Hong Meiling, who leads the outer guard; Patchouli Knowledge who acts as the librarian and private tutor; and Sakuya Izayoi, who is the maids' leader and acts as Remilia's personal attendant."; _root.sdm2 = "Scarlet Devil Mansion was the location of the majority of Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. Stage 4 took place in the library, Stage 5 and the Extra Stage took place in its hallways, and the Final Stage took place on the rooftop balcony."; _root.sdm3 = "The inside of Scarlet Devil Mansion is much larger than is apparent from the outside. This is due to Sakuya's ability to manipulate time and space."; _root.mil1 = "The Misty Lake is a large lake located at the foot of the Youkai Mountain. It surrounds a small island which hosts the Scarlet Devil Mansion. It seems to be a home to Cirno and other fairies, such as Daiyousei."; _root.mil2 = "The river streaming into the lake is from the Youkai Mountain, and the mist around it makes it difficult to see through at noon."; _root.mil3 = "In the games it was rather common to see up until Mountain of Faith though."; _root.huv1 = "The Human Village is where most of Gensokyo's humans live. Even though some youkai also visit here to shop, this is the safest place in all of Gensokyo to live. Humans from the outside world that stumble into Gensokyo and decide to stay often have no choice but to live here as they would be unable to handle the youkai outside the village. The village itself has a powerful protector in Keine Kamishirasawa, who is capable of 'hiding' the history of the village's existence so that youkai cannot even reach the village, much less attack it."; _root.huv2 = "Among the people living at the village are Keine Kamishirasawa (who runs a school here) and Hieda no Akyu. The village has an unnamed leader, a florist, a tofu shop, etc. There's also the Kirisame-ya second-hand shop here which is owned by Marisa Kirisame's family. Reisen Udongein Inaba is known to come here to sell medicine, and Sakuya Izayoi comes to shop. Most of the furniture in Scarlet Devil Mansion was made by humans in this village."; _root.huv3 = "After the Palanquin Ship landed near the village at the conclusion of Undefined Fantastic Object, Byakuren Hijiri converted it into a Buddhist temple."; _root.kou1 = "Kourindou is an antique store seated between human civilization and the Forest of Magic, run by Rinnosuke Morichika. Though it's a somewhat well-known establishment for folks in the world of Touhou, Rinnosuke rarely (if ever) actually sells anything, despite keeping an exhaustive inventory - he mostly trades and/or puts up with 'creative borrowing'. On occasion, the store is used for completely non-business ventures, such as cooking and combat. The store has also taken quite a bit of damage over time, thanks to conflicts that involve the store's occupants. The inventory of Kourindou is (presumably) its main draw, as it mostly includes items from the outside world. Teacups, feather pillows, computing magazines, kerosene heaters, and even an iPod have made their way there over time."; _root.kou2 = "As Kourindou only appears in a side story, no character in a game has actually visited Kourindou yet, though Marisa has mentioned it to Reimu in the Match Mode of Phantasmagoria of Flower View."; _root.kou3 = "Also, in Sanae B's scenario in UFO, Nazrin mentions a shop which may be Kourindou. "; _root.fom1 = "The Forest of Magic is a focal point for all things evil, ominous, and repulsive. It's a place whose true nature is clouded by strange rumours and weird happenstance. Once you look beyond the human-eating plants and inevitable, horrible misfortune that will surely befall all who even think of trespassing into the forest, it's also a fairly nice place to live for people who don't like to be disturbed."; _root.fom2 = "Marisa's house of doom, storage, and generally odd things are located somewhere within the forest. Apparently her house doubles as the Kirisame Magic Shop. Alice's house of dolls is also there."; _root.fom3 = "Near both their houses is the tree where the Three Mischievous Fairies live."; _root.kir1 = "Marisa Kirisame is a human magician, and is one of the most important sub-characters of the series. Her personality is sometimes described as disagreeable, but in some other titles, straightforward. Either way, she is a very self-confident person that likes to stick her nose into every trouble out of curiosity. During the events of Story of Eastern Wonderland, she made her first appearance as a minion of Mima, to prevent Reimu from reaching her boss, but was defeated. Since then, she has appeared in every title but one of the Touhou series, usually sided with Reimu, but sometimes against her. She is also known as a hard worker, who's trying to catch up to Reimu with her secret training and magic development. Marisa is the author of The Grimoire of Marisa, a collection of notes about spellcards used by her and other danmaku users she has encountered."; _root.kir2 = "Marisa lives in the Forest of Magic. She goes to Reimu's shrine often, but is rarely seen in the Human Village."; _root.kir3 = "She runs the 'Kirisame Magic Shop' from her house, but rarely has any customers. "; _root.has1 = "The Hakurei Shrine is a small, run-down Shinto shrine that lies in the mountains of the East, isolated from society. It exists on the boundary between this world and Gensokyo. It is simultaneously accessible from both sides, but some unknown circumstances must be met in order to travel from one side to the other. The shrine is home to Reimu Hakurei. It's also apparently a popular hangout for all the other girls who Reimu and company defeat in the course of the Touhou games. Behind the shrine is a grove of cherry trees, which is a popular spot for flower viewing in spring."; _root.has2 = "Very few humans come to this shrine, and even fewer (if anyone at all) leave donations. It has been around for many generations, thirteen at the very least. It was destroyed by an earthquake caused by Tenshi Hinanai, and again by Yukari Yakumo, but it was rebuilt with the help of Sakuya Izayoi, Alice Margatroid, and Suika Ibuki."; _root.has3 = "Because the shrine is old-fashioned, it offers poor protection from the cold."; _root.grb1 = "The Great Barrier (or 'Hakurei Border') is the border between Gensokyo and the outside world. This was created in Meiji 17 (AD 1884), the creation of which marks year 0 on Gensokyo's Timeline. It's often refered to as the 'Border','Hakurei Barrier','Great Boundary' etc. It is known that the Hakurei Shrine is located on the border and believed that Yukari Yakumo lives somewhere along the border as well. It is the strongest boundary in all of Gensokyo, with Youkai reinforcing the original work done by humans in 1884. Yuyuko has speculated that not even Yukari could make a boundary of this level. Yet it is not completely impenetrable. Examples of this include various individual people that have arrived through it as well as entire locations that have been transported through the barrier."; _root.grb2 = "The Hakurei Shrine is supposed to be the one gate through the boundary. This shrine exists on both sides of the border. Thus a lot of random items slip through and are found at the shrine. Furthermore, people sometimes wander through the boundary and are either turned back with an illusion or they insist upon staying (in which case they're put in the Human Village for safety)"; _root.grb3 = "Youkai teams sometimes go out to gather humans for cooking, hiding their activities with magic."; _root.ouw1 = "The Outer World is the world of the 'normal' humans."; _root.ouw2 = "Because of the Hakurei Border ('Great Barrier') they are unaware of the existance of Gensokyo."; _root.ouw3 = "Sometimes humans, objects or even places get from the outer world into Gensokyo."; _root.mar1 = "Alice Margatroid is one of only a few people known to live within the Forest of Magic. She's a magician known primarily for her skillful use of dolls as well as being a loner. She gets in many fights with Marisa but they are somewhat acquaintances, sharing many of the same interests and even teaming up during Imperishable Night and Subterranean Animism. In Immaterial and Missing Power the vast majority of her attacks involved dolls in one way or another, either attacking for her or being used as explosives. She is a doll specialist, but dolls are more like a hobby in comparison to her full power. Alice is always seen with a locked grimoire in her hands, which is thought to be the same 'Grimoire of Alice' that she fought the protagonist with as the Mystic Square Extra Boss. Because Alice, unlike Marisa, is much more interested in strategy and hates having to win a fight from sheer overwhelming power, she always holds back even if it means losing."; _root.mar2 = "Alice was once human and became a youkai magician through training. She is young as a youkai, so she is considerate towards humans and still behaves as one of them would."; _root.mar3 = "Anyone is welcome to stay over at her small house in the Forest of Magic, but as she never makes conversation and only carries on with her research, she is unsettling company."; _root.bfl1 = "The Bamboo Forest of the Lost is said to be located in the opposite direction as the Youkai Mountain when looking out from the Human Village."; _root.bfl2 = "The forest is featured as stages in Imperishable Night, Phantasmagoria of Flower View and Scarlet Weather Rhapsody. Inside of it lies the mansion Eientei."; _root.bfl3 = "Mokou lives here assisting any people who get lost, while Tewi and other rabbits can be seen wandering in the forest."; _root.eie1 = "Eientei is the name of a large, old-fashioned Japanese mansion hidden deep within the Bamboo Forest of the Lost. It has hallways that lead out into the far reaches of the sky. Eientei is currently occupied by a large group. Kaguya Houraisan and Eirin Yagokoro have been hiding there since their exile from the Moon. Other occupants include rabbits\u2014lots of them\u2014all under the command of Tewi Inaba and Reisen Udongein Inaba, who protect Kaguya and Eirin from intruders."; _root.eie2 = "Every month on the night of the full moon, the residents of Eientei hold a Moon Festival offering mochi with medicinal herbs pounded into them."; _root.eie3 = "Making mochi is thus the main occupation of the Earth rabbits."; _root.nah1 = "Opposite of Gensokyo from the Youkai Mountain is a small mountain, and halfway up it is a meadow with a great number of lilies-of-the-valley. Somehow, it remains a place hidden from the human village and it doesn't get much direct sunlight and it's fairly windy, so it doesn't get very warm. "; _root.nah2 = "The reason this place is called Nameless Hill is because long ago it was a place where children were abandoned. Young children who weren't even given names were brought here to sleep to their death among the lilies' poison. The dead bodies were cleaned up by the youkai, so they disappeared without a trace."; _root.nah3 = "This is a story from when one could pass between Gensokyo and the outside world. Of course, this doesn't take place today."; _root.gos1 = "If you go towards the heart of Gensokyo from the opposite side of mountain during summer, you'll find a stretch of land filled with dazzling yellow. This field is called the Garden of the Sun, and the yellow comes from a great number of sunflowers. The Garden of the Sun is generally in the shape of a south-facing bowl, so it's hard to see from afar."; _root.gos2 = "If you're careless enough to get caught up in it, you'd likely be surrounded by a great number of youkai. The sunflowers themselves are quite ordinary, so the field is a popular sunbathing spot for fairies in the day."; _root.gos3 = "The sunflowers in this field are always facing directly towards the sun, but this is just because fairies are hiding beneath them and making them turn to face the sun."; _root.myh1 = "No Information found."; _root.myh2 = "It's probably too mysterious."; _root.myh3 = "Why is this even on the map?";
