where's my slave?

You awaken bright and early at 1:30pm. It's a beautiful day, the sun
is shining-- you've got the whole afternoon ahead of you.
You yawn, swinging your feet out of bed... but as they touch the floor
you realize something is amiss! Your bunny slippers are not laid out
for you!

"Slave!" you shout. "Bunny slippers, NOW!"
But there is no reply. You grumpily pull the slippers out from
under the bed all by yourself and shuffle out to the hall.

You walk blearily to the kitchen and pick up an empty coffee pot,
pouring yourself an empty cup of coffee for several minutes before
realizing that it lacks coffee. You look around, blinking. All of
the pots and pans are undisturbed. Your standard breakfast of
spam, spam, eggs and spam is nowhere to be seen!

"WTF!" you shout, actually using the letters W, T and F.
You stomp off to the dungeon to find out what the hell is going on.

"You better have accidentally locked yourself into the automatic
spanker again!" you shout as you storm in, but the room is
decidedly lacking in slave. Cuffs are uncuffed, straps are
unstrapped... a pair of nipple clamps rests forlornly on the floor
without nipples to clamp.

Something is definitely wrong here. She might be rebellious
sometimes, but your slave wouldn't leave without asking you
first.
You grab a few "special items" from a locked cabinet in the corner
and set out to investigate.

Stepping outside, you see your neighbor sunbathing by her pool.
She waves to you.
Hoping that she saw something, you walk over to talk to her.

"Would you mind trying something, to help you remember?"
"Sure dude!" she says. "What?"
"Hypnosis. It can help with stuff like this."
"Cool, like in the stage shows? What do I have to do?"
"Just lie back and close your eyes..."

"I don't know! She was gone when I woke up this morning. Did you
see her leave?"

"I think so. She was with some women all dressed in black."

You begin speaking in low, even tones. At the same time, you hold
the watch at an angle so that the sun reflects off of the glass,
flicking the spot of light back and forth across her eyelids.

"Clear your mind. Imagine that you're alone on a beach, just you and
the sand and the waves lapping against the shore. The sun is warm
but not too hot; it's that perfect temperature that puts the mind and
body at ease. You feel yourself begin to drift pleasantly, thinking
peaceful thoughts.

"Take a deep breath, and as you let it out, feel every bit of tension
in your body go with it. There is nothing left but perfect relaxation
and the perfect day. Take another deep breath, slower this time.
As you let it out..."

You go on for some minutes. She's a good subject, listening to every
word. It's not long before she's in a light trance. After barely ten
minutes have passed, she's deeply under.

"Now, we're going back to this morning, when you saw Fi." (Fi is your
slave's name.) "What did the other women look like?"
She speaks slowly: "They were both dressed in black catsuits, like
they totally forgot Halloween was last week or something.

"One was tall with brown hair, the other was shorter with reddish
highlights. They had Fi between them. She looked tired or something;
her head was nodding and they were holding her up.  They got into
a big black Hummer. It looked like they kinda had to help her in;
she wasn't looking too steady.

"What!" you shout. "Didn't you think that was strange?"
"Well yeah, but one of the women was really pale, and it got me to
thinking about my tan, so I went back to tanning and forgot about it."

Oh nose! You'd been hoping she accidentally wandered off someplace
(she doesn't go out much and gets lost easily), but it looks like she's
been kidnapped! Who would want to do such a thing?

...ok, lots of people would. Fi is super hot. But more importantly,
who would do such a thing while wearing a skintight catsuit?
"You've helped a lot, Brigitte. Not as much as, say, calling the cops
when you saw someone kidnapping Fi would have, but you've helped.

"I have to go now, so I want you to imagine that you're doing something
you love to do at the beach. Keep your ears open, and if you hear
anything strange from my house, call me right away, k?"
"Hm, something I love to do... like skinny dipping?"

"Sure, whatever," you say. You try to think of all the people Fi knows.
There's an old college friend of hers, Liz, that was always kinda
sketchy. Might be a good place to start.  Maybe she...

You suddenly notice that your neighbor is half naked and getting up.
"What are you doing?!" you say.
"Skinny dipping! You said to!"

"I said to think about something you like to do, not do it!" you shout,
exasperated. It's too late, she's already making for the pool. You can't
let her swim while in a trance! She might drown or something!
Do something!

"Thewha?" she says.
"There's a rope, a magic rope, coming up from behind the chair. It
wraps itself around your wrists, tightly. It's incredibly strong; you
can't fight it. It's pulling you down against the chair and tying you to it."

"Eek!" She falls back, pinned. "Unhand me, Rope!"
"It can't hear you. It's a piece of rope."
"The fiend! It's thought of everything!"

"...Right," you say. "So you just stay put while I try to figure out what
happened to Fi."
You scan your yard and hers for any clues, but there's nothing
obvious. Time to go play detective. You turn back to Brigitte.
"I'll be back la--" you begin...

"...Why did you take your shirt off?" you ask.
"The rope did it!"
"..."

"Look, I really need to go," you say.
"Get help!" she cries. "Hurry! My tan lines are going to be all uneven!"

You exit to the sounds of your hot neighbor grunting against her
invisible restraints. At least your day can't get any weirder, right?
Right?

You decide to pay Liz a visit. She lives in a posh apartment downtown,
though how she can afford such a place is a mystery. She's always
been the wildest of Fi's friends, alternating between nympho,
junkie and thief as the mood takes her. The last guy she dated went
into rehab and became a born-again Christian after one weekend with her.

"Yeah, nice watch," she rolls her eyes. "Did you want me to pawn it for you
or something? Look, I've got shit to do. If you don't want to fuck or get high,
go find me someone who does."

Tempting, but it'd be an awful waste of some powerful stuff.
Don't you just hate it when games make value judgements on your decisions?

Oh, she would just love that. And then you might start loving it too.
Unfortunately, you don't have the time if you want to save Fi. For all you
know, someone could be preparing to dispose of her at this very moment.

You reach out and grab her by the wrist. She gasps, falling into you. You
wrap the other hand around her waist, bend her back, and kiss her
passionately for what may be a moment or an hour; you're not sure. When
you break the kiss she whines, her eyes smoldering.
"Get back here," she breathes.

"I brought something for you. A peace offering," you smile. You hold up
the syringe.
"Damn, when did you get hip? Gimme."
"Ok." You reach around and jam the needle into her ass.

Not a bad idea. If only there were some way to distract her...

The door swings open and there she is, in all her unbalanced glory.
"Well howdy, Sailor. Long time no see," she lilts.

"I'm looking for Fi. Have you seen or talked to her lately?" you ask.
"Nice to see you too," she pouts.
"She disappeared this morning. I think she might be in danger.

"If you know anything about it, tell me. I don't have time for games."
"That's a shame," she smirks. "Sorry, haven't seen her. We barely talk
anymore. You know that," she looks at you pointedly. "Was that all?
You coulda just called."

"I wanted to ask you in person."
"Uh huh. Why's that, Sailor?" She raises her eyebrows, smiling. "Come
on in, have a drink. She'll turn up, she always does. Hot as a fire-
cracker, dumb as a post, that's my Fi."

She sashays into the apartment, swinging her hips suggestively. You'd
be flattered if you didn't know that she would hump a fire hydrant if
she was bored enough. Or maybe she's trying to distract you... either
way, it's not helping you find Fi. If she's lying, she's not going to crack
anytime soon.

She eyes you, flashing a wry smile. "So what now, Sailor? Wanna play?"

"Whoa," she gasps, sitting heavily on the couch. "That is... That's not
what I thought it was."

"Of course not. Do I look like a junkie to you?"
"No, you look... blurry to me," she giggles.

The giggles slowly fade into mumbling and gibberish, and then
into silence as the drug takes hold. Her eyes seem to focus on an
invisible point six inches above the couch, and her breathing
becomes slow and even. For a moment, you wonder if you gave her
too much... she's only a skinny little thing, after all.

You walk her through a light induction, then begin your questions.
"Liz, can you hear me?"
"Uh huh."

"Do you know where Fi is?"
"Uh huh."
"Well, where is she?"

"Sold her."
"...what?"
"I sold her to some dominatrix chick."

"You WHAT? You did... what? Who did you 'sell' her to?"
"I dunno what her real name is. She just calls herself Mistress Dee.
She has this huge mansion. It's awesome. You could like, live in the
closet space alone. It has like ten bathrooms. So awesome..."

"Why would she want to 'buy' Fi? (And wasn't that outlawed in the
nineteenth century?)"
"I dunno. She buys girls and trains them to be maids or something. I
guess she really needed help cleaning all those bathrooms."

Mistress Dee... the name sounds familiar. If it's true, it's bad news.
She does indeed have 'like ten bathrooms', and she brainwashes
girls for fun and profit. She gets away with it by providing... services
to some very important people. And she's a pro. The girls who she's
'taken in' usually don't remember their real names after a week with her.

"Liz... why would you do something so heinous? Fi's your friend!"
"Had some debts... had a choice, become one of Dee's girls or find her
one. Sub isn't my thing. So I found her one. And... I thought maybe...
without Fi around, I'd have a shot at you."

"Oh, you're gonna have a shot with me all right. Take off your clothes."
Despite the deep trance, she smiles faintly.

"Now, tell me everything you can remember
about this Dee's mansion. What kind of security
does she have? How many girls are there?"
"Lots of girls. The girls are the secuity. She
trains them in all these ninja moves and
stuff."

"How many girls?"
"I dunno, I only met a couple.
I think lots."

"How about weapons?
They armed?"
"I didn't see any. It
would be kinda hard
to hide a gun under
some of those outfits."

She doesn't seem to know much
more. Time to wrap this up and go
rescue Fi.
"Ok Liz. I want you to imagine
you're walking down a long, dark
tunnel. There's a light at the end,
but it's just a pinprick. It's going
to be a long walk to get to the light,
and with every step, your mind
will sink deeper, and your thoughts
will float farther away."

You continue to deepen her trance for a good long while. "Now, Liz, in a moment I will snap
my fingers, and you will wake up. When you do, your mind will be empty of all thoughts
except one: you must get to my house. Nothing can interrupt that one thought. If you manage
to get there without getting arrested for indecent exposure, you will go
downstairs and lock youself into the cuffs that are
bolted to the wall. Then your eyes will close,
and you'll fall into a deep sleep, until I
wake you up. Do you understand?"

"Yes."

"Yes."
"Good."
You snap your fingers.

Her eyes open slowly; they're distant and glazed. She regards you
with a certain not-thereness.
"I have to go," she says matter-of-factly.

You give her about a 50/50 chance of not getting arrested on the
way there. Either way, she'll be locked up where she belongs.
It's time to head to Mistress Dee's mansion.

The driveway is almost as long as the road that lead to it. You duck
into the woods when the mansion is almost in sight and sneak
around back, just in case there are any cameras (or psycho brain-
washed ninjas) watching the driveway.

You emerge from the lush and well-groomed foliage by the pool...

...and are surprised not at all to find a stark naked girl sitting there.
She's already seen you; it's too late to duck back into the bushes. You
decide to play it like you meant to be skulking around in the bushes
all along, and walk right up to her with an air of what you hope is
authority.

"Hello," she says.
"Um, hi. Gee, you sure are naked."
"You haven't been here before," she says simply.

"Um, sure I have! I come here all the time. I'm so popular that
I need to sneak around back to get in, or I'll get mobbed. I just
bought this shirt. I can't have some crazy girly mob tearing it up."
"Uh huh," she smiles.

"You are certainly cute and funny, sir, but I'm afraid I'll have to ask
you for the password."
"I can't tell you that, how do I know you're not just trying to score a
backstage pass yourself, huh?" you say. Great job thinking on your
feet there, Slick.

"Because I am security for this portion of the grounds," she says.
"You're security? Shouldn't you have a, you know, gun or something?"
"I can kill a man in 46 different ways with my bare hands."

"That's.. that's a whole lot of ways to kill someone," you posit.
"Mistress Dee has been attempting to teach me how to subdue a tres-
passer non fatally, but I often kill them accidentally. It has been diff-
icult to unlearn my training from my past life as a marine."

"Ah. And the naked, that's what, to keep people off their guard?"
"Mistress requires most of her servants to remain unclothed. The fact
that I have unique duties does not exempt me from that rule."

"Now, sir, if you are a guest of the Mistress, I have to insist that you tell
me your password. Otherwise, I am obliged to respond with force. If
you should happen to perish, I appologize in advance. Alternatively,
you may lie face down on the ground and allow me to bind and gag
you. You will be placed in a cell until Mistress chooses to address you."

"Riiiight. And what happens then?"
"Mistress will deal with you as she sees fit. Most simply receive pri-
son sentences-- Mistress's connections in the police department en-
sure it. But some, if they are lucky and deemed worthy, become servants.

"I hope she chooses the latter for you. You are cute and almost made
me laugh," she says, with an eerie sincerity.
"Suppose I don't want to be someone's servant?" you ask.
"There is always resistance at first. But, if chosen, you will soon forget it."

"I get it. Like the Borg, but more picky about membership.
But I kinda need to speak with her in a not-being-her-slave way, so,
I think I'll just leave and call later to make an appointment. Thanks!"
"I'm afraid that any attempt to leave now will be met with force, Sir."

Hm, met with force. She doesn't seem like the type to toss words like
"force" around lightly. And you've seen what people in a trance are
capable of, even ones that aren't brainwashed, ex-marine killing
machines.
What do you do?

Go peacefully.
Try to reason with her; maybe you can talk your way out of it.
Try something from your bag of tricks.

"Look, your 'mistress' has something of mine... someone of mine, and,
I need to talk to her about it. There must be some way to work this
out that doesn't involve violence, prison or brainwashing, right? I'm
not attacking you or anyone else here. I'm not a threat. So could we
please talk about this like reasonable adults?"

"You are certainly cute and funny, sir, but I'm afraid I'll have to ask
you for the password."
"I can't tell you that, how do I know you're not just trying to score a
backstage pass yourself, huh?" Good thinking of your feet there, Slick.

This chick is pretty hardcore. You're fairly sure you're only going to get
one shot at this. Maybe you should try something that you can do from
a distance... unless you think you can take her.

You take out the watch and begin flashing it across her eyes. "You're
getting sleeeeepy..." you intone.
"I'm sorry sir. I'm afraid I've discussed this for as long as I can."

You whip out the aerosol like a cowboy drawing a 6-shooter and
spray it directly into her face, taking care to stay more than an arm's
length away. Then you leap back just for good measure.

"Meet THIS with force!" you cry, and swing at her with a powerful
haymaker, aiming for the jaw. You have the advantage; she's in a
sitting position and you're already in motion. She won't have a cha--

Holding the syringe behind your back, you casually approach her.
"Ok. The password is..." you say, leaning in confidentially, then dart
your hand out with cat-like agility, aiming for the shoulder...

"I've got a better idea," you say. "How about I tie you up instead, then
walk in there and rescue my slave that your Mistress Hoebag
kidnapped this morning? How's that sound?"

You take out the cuffs.
"I'm sorry maam, but I'm afraid you and everyone here are guilty of
poaching slaves without a license. My slave, in particular. Why, slave
hunting season doesn't even begin until next month. I'm going to
have to take you downtown."

She reacts instantly, coiling to strike... it's good thing the stuff works
instantly, too. She sits back down with a dazed (but still pissed) look
on her face.
"Whoze the hrn you whanow?" she accuses.

Her eyes slowly close as she settles back into the chair to enjoy some
vivid hallucinations.
"You could've gone places sweetheart, big places. You're a classy dame.
But this racket is for the birds," you say, before remembering you're
not in a 40's detective movie.

"Is your room near here?" you ask. Even hot, brainwashed, ex-marine
security guards need sleep, and you'll need someplace to hide her
when you're done asking questions.
"Just inside... first room on the left..." she mumbles.

"Good. Now, where does your mistress keep ker new kidnappees?"
"In holding cells... they are kept restrained until the Mistress finds
time to awaken them to their new life."

"How do I get there?"
"Through the shherrn zzrr nnm..." she slurs.
"Through the what now?

"Nnm, shh, erph," she sighs happily.
Woops, maybe you gave her a little too much.

You'd better get her out of sight before someone decides to come out
for a dip. You pick her up and carry her inside to her room.

You drop her on the bed and pause to wonder what the hell you're
going to do now. There's no way you can search the whole mansion
without being noticed, and your only source of information is
barely conscious. You'll have to try and bring her out of it a little, at
least enough to tell you something useful.

You spend the next twenty minutes trying to talk her down to some
form of lucidity. The drug's effects begin to fade (or, at least, drop
to more of a 'recommended dosage' level), and, eventually, she starts
answering questions with real words.

"Holding shells are inna bashemend," she drawls dreamily.
"Basement, ok. How many other girls... 'servants', are there here?"
"Fiffty or shixty..."

"Holy shit. Are they all Chuck Norrisettes like you?"
"Onnly a few are... Norrissettsss."

"How about triggers? Your mistress must have given all of you some
triggers to make you more suggestible, or do certain things, right?"
"Yess, we have many differnt oness."

"Are there any that cause sleep, or a trance or something?"
"Yes, there is the master trigger. It will cause any servant to fall into a
deep trance that they cannot awaken from until they hear the other
master trigger. As an elite guard, I am one of the few that know it."

"Now that's what I'm talkin about. What is it?"
"The phrase is 'Cherry Marmalade'."
"So I just say 'Cherry Marmalade' and any girl drops like a rock? Score."

"What's the phrase to wake them up?" you ask, but she doesn't answer.
You shake her; nothing. She's dead to the world.
Oooooh, right. Nice move, Einstein. At least now you know the
trigger works.

Time to get to work. You figure that Mistress Dee must have some way of
communicating with every servant in the mansion, in case of emer-
gency, and you also figure that one of her elite guards might have
access to it. Poking around the room, you find what you're looking for:
an intercom. Score.

You pick it up and speak into it.
"Ladies and ladies, it's time for Cherry Marmalade!"

From all directions, above and around you, you hear soft thumps.
So that's what fifty brainwashed girls falling to the floor sounds like.
You hope that none of them hit their head.
The mansion should be wide open now. Except for Mistress Bitch, of
course. But you'll deal with her when the time comes.

You emerge into a small and cozy hall. From the humble look of it, you
guess it must be the servants' quarters.

A comfortable, warmly lit den. Careful, don't step on the girls.

Hm, it looks like some servants are allowed to wear clothing after all.
Whatever suits a "guest"'s fantasy, you suppose. Looks like this one was
right in the middle of cheering practice when she heard the trigger.

You pass through the doorway, down some dimly lit stairs, to... here. Wow,
when this mistress builds a dungeon, she really builds a dungeon. It even
has that authentic musty dungeon smell. At the end of the tunnel there is
a light that seems bright when compared to this gloom.

The room is small, containing nothing but one large cage. The cage
contains one girl, who presses herself against it when she sees you
approach. While she is certainly attractive, she isn't your slave.

"Hi there," you say. "I'm looking for a friend of mine. About this tall,
strawberry blonde, probably kicking and screaming? Your boss kid-
napped her this morning. Have you seen her?"
She regards you silently.

Come to think of it, if she is one of Dee's slaves, why isn't she asleep? And if
she's a prisoner, why isn't she acting more prisonery? If she'd been
kidnapped, one would expect more screaming and less eerie staring.
"What's your deal?" you ask. "Do you talk?"

Apparently not much. Her gaze is steady and unwavering, and you
find yourself drawn to her eyes. They are, you have to admit, some of
the most beautiful peepers you've ever seen. You have to force your-
self to look away. Staring is rude, yo.

"Please let me out," she says, breaking the silence.
"So you do talk."
She responds by not talking some more.

"You'll forgive my hesitation, but I don't think we know each other well
enough to be letting each other out of cages just yet. First of all, do
you work for Mistress Dee?"

"I am not one of her servants. I am a prisoner here."
"I see. So why's she keep you locked away all alone down here?"
"Because I have an... effect on the others."

You wait for her to elaborate; she doesn't.
"Has anyone ever told you that getting information from you is like
pulling teeth from... something that doesn't have teeth?" you ask.
"What kind of effect?"

"You wouldn't understand. Please, just let me out. I only wish to leave."
She'd probably be surprised at the things you would understand,
but, time's a wastin'. What do you do?

Let her out.
Question her some more before deciding.
Just get the hell out of there.

Her vibe is definitely weird, but not scary. You unlock the cage.

"Thank you," she says.
"Hang on a second," you say. "I could really use a hand here. My
girlfriend really was kidnapped my this Dee person. If you know
anything that might help, that would be super."

"Yes. You helped me, I will help you. I don't know where she is being held,
but, there is something else I could do for you."

She makes with the eerie stare again, but this time you find yourself
literally unable to look away. Her eyes seem to grow until they fill
your vision; your body feels disconnected; you're unable to move so
much as a finger. Well hell. You came all this way only to have some
chick pull some mind mojo on you, and now you're--

"Done," she says. You come back to yourself with the feeling that some
minutes have passed.
"What did you do?" you gasp.

"I have protected your mind against most kinds of outside influence. You
will now be able to resist this Mistress Dee's sway, if you try."
"Oh," you say. "Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but how's that
work?"

"I was born with the natural ability of mesmerism," she says. "That is why
that Dee woman kidnapped me. I was taken from my home in India
in the middle of the night and brought here. She thought she could
control me and use me as a tool to control others, but her methods
did not affect me.

"So instead, she forced me to help her recruit girls by threatening my
family if I did not comply. But now I can warn them; they will be safe
once they know the danger, and I can go home. Thank you."

"No problem. I'm all about helping the damsels in distress. You can go to
my place to hide out for now, if you want. India's kind of far away,
and you're kind of half naked and, unless you're hiding a wallet
under there, broke."

"Oh, I'll be fine." She smiles faintly and pads out the door.

Well, that was surreal. Back to the search for Fi.

"I still need some answers, and you're the only one awake enough to give
them to me. Speaking of which, what's the trigger phrase to wake all
these girls back up?"
She pauses for a long time before speaking slowly.

"I do not know. She keeps me here against my will, and she doesn't share
information that I might use against her."
"Maybe. You'll pardon my saying so, but you sure don't act like some-
one who is being held against their will."

She doesn't answer; she just makes with some more of the penetrating,
pretty eyes.

"Where can I find..."  you begin, then lose your train of thought.
Something about this chick is unsettling to say the least. It almost
feels as if she's... what? Reading your thoughts? You begin to have
the strangest feeling of disconnection with the rest of your body. Her
eyes seem to grow until they fill all your vision.

Something's not right here. You're having a hard time remembering why
you came in the first place, or... how to work your legs, for example.
