High Score Table

Instructions and Help

Arse Race is a gambling game for the Arse afficinado.  Every effort has
been made to make this game as authentic and as close to the real
sport of Arse Racing as possible.

The object of the game is to make as much money as you can by
betting on the outcome of a series of five Arse Races.  You have 500
Royal Groats to start with - it's theoretically possible to turn this into
millions by the end of the events.

There are twenty different Arses, five of which are chosen at random
for each race.  They each have their own names and distinct
characteristics.

Introduction

When the game first starts, you are taken to the Paddock, where you
can view the Arses and choose which one to bet on.
To bet on an Arse, simply click the odds listed by the Arse you fancy.
Enter a wager in the Stake box - this defaults to 50 Groats, or
whatever you bet last time.  Note that you can't bet more money than
you actually have!  Take care when betting your entire pot - if you run
out of money, it's game over, no matter how many races are left to
run.
When you have decided on an arse, click the Start Race button in the
top left corner.  Until you press this button, you can alter your bet as
much as you like.  When you press the button, the race will start!

In order to pick a potential race winner, you must learn to read the
form data that is available for each Arse when you are in the Paddock.
Here is the data for an Arse. See the next few pages for an
explanation.

What do the Blobs Mean?

ODDS - The odds being offered on that Arse.
LANE -  Which lane the Arse will race in.
NAME - It's important to get to know each Arse.
PICTURE - Pick an Arse that you like the look of!
PERFORMANCE - The more green blobs there are, the faster the
Arse can go.  Faster Arses have less endurance, however...

FAVOURED GOING - Check the 'Going' box to the left of the
Paddock.  This tells you the condition of the course for the next race.
Each Arse prefers a certain type of ground.  If the white blob is in the
middle, it prefers GOOD ground. If the blob is to the left it favours
SOFT ground, if it is to the right it favours FIRM ground.

TRAINER'S FACE - The Performance and Favoured Going of each
Arse don't change from race to race, but their overall fitness can vary.
Check the expression on the trainer's face to see how well he thinks
his Arse will do.  Take care, it's only his opinion - he will usually be
right, but trainers do make mistakes.  Despite appearances, they tend
to be optimistic.

After you have finished betting and pressed the 'Start Race' button,
you will be taken to the racecourse.  You will see the Arses ready on
the start line, waiting for the starter's gun.
When the race is underway, two buttons appear at the bottom of the
display.  One says 'Whips' - the other says 'Beans'.  These two buttons
allow you limited control of the Arse that you have backed.  By the
buttons are some icons - these icons show you how many Whips and
Beans you have left.  Don't use them all in the first race - they must
last you throughout all five races!

The Race - What are 'Whips' and 'Beans'?

WHIPS       spur your Arse on to make a greater effort.  While the
Whip is effective, flames will be seen emitting from the Arse, and it
will go faster.  Any further uses of the Whip during this time are
ineffective. As any old trainer will tell you, "There's no point whippin' a
flamin' Arse."  Although the Whip will make your Arse go faster for a
while, it will make your Arse tire quicker.  Which is where Beans come
in.
BEANS       replenish your Arse's energy.  You can tell when an Arse
is tired - it starts to sweat, and slows down considerably.  A quick
dose of Beans can revive a flagging Arse - very useful near the finish,
or if the Whip has been used enthusiastically.

What do 'Whips' and 'Beans' do?

Save your Whips and Beans for when you really need them.  Don't
use them all in the first race! Don't overuse the Whip -  it won't hurt
the Arse, but it'll hurt your wallet.
Always check the trainer's face.  A massive smile can sometimes be
better than maximum performance.
Be bold when you back an Arse - you'll only get on the high score
table if you're prepared to play for high stakes!
Get to know the Arses.  Success isn't just a case of getting the
numbers right - Arses have feelings too.

Hints and Tips

If you have an active connection to the internet, you can view the top
ten Arse Punters on the start screen of this game, and you can view
the top 100 punters on a web page via a link button on that same
screen.
If your score is good enough, and you are connected to the internet,
you can save your score on the high score table for all to see.
If you're not connected to the internet, never mind, you can still play
the game - but you won't be able to save your high score or view the
high score tables.
