NEWGROUNDS |
If you want the full details, go read the NG history section, in the NG lit. Here are, in my opinion and memory, a couple of the key events that happened here: -Pico! -The Portal -The Grounds Gold accounts -The Wazzap craze ( see Tardz Wazzup, it's neat!!!) -Heroes of Cybertron -Strawberry Clock and then the Clock Crew -The Britney Dress up Doll -The Al Your Base craze -The Blam Club -Alien Hominid -The Blam/Protection points -The Skock Scare and Tricky phenomenons -The "Blammers Beware" scare which provoked a strange increase of the score of every new portal submission and a way more frequent rotation of the top 50 |

EXPERIENCE |
These first hit NG as " gold" which you would get from visiting the different parts of newgrounds. The users who have the most experience in the top 50 probably started racking up points at that time. These "grounds gold" would unlock special features as you collected them. Not so long after grounds gold, when the portal was getting pretty popular, the grounds gold became experience points wich could only be accumulated by voting on movies in the Portal. Now, users with more points could add weight to their votes, which sounded pretty cool! And was! ( that's when I got my account) . At first, one vote was worth one point, up to ten per day, but then, it changed to the current point system: one vote = 2 experience. I don't really know why the NG staff did this. Later, the kickass level system was implanted. Now, the more experience you got, the higher your user level would get! Auras where also introduced around that time. Back then, you could'nt change your aura at will: it was based on your voting habbits. Oh, BTW,Only a certain number of the higher levels can exist, only 1 level 30, 3 level 29 and so on. That is why it takes more and more time to level up after level 9-10, because there is no limit to these levels. I remember that I started out at level 10 and that, at one point, the level 30 guy ( currently number 4) had around 4000 points. Check out: Newgrounds Experience, by Wade |
ASSASSIN |
The reason why I became a NG fan! When I arrived on this site, the badass that is shotgun man was already offering me interesting missions like the Kill Puff Daddy Punch Out, the Microwave Furby and Kill Britney Spears. Man, was Assassin cool! The list of missions was growing at quite a nice pace until the portal came into action and stole the spotlight. Well, in any case, we can always say that Shotgun man is an irreplacable NG icon and, even if he's not that popular anymore, he still has a place in our hearts. Sniff sniff.... (no, that is not cocaine, it's some form of nostalgic sadness) |
<P ALIGN="LEFT"></P> |
BLAM / PROTECTION POINTS |
I think it was during the summer of 2002 that this system was introduced. At that time, most Ng users only voted/viewed the top 5 of the day so they could get their 10 exp. points. Also, each time a user would give the final vote (that would send a submission to its grave), that person got a "blam point", which wasn't worth anything, but still encoura- ged people to hold their votes until the movie was about to go by e bye. This resulted in most entries not geting to 100 views/ votes, and this didn't fit well with the portal spirit. The new system was simple: vote bad on a bad movie: get a point, vote good on a good movie: get a point, and the more points you have, the more your vote is worth. This had exactly the effect that was expected: no movie could stay under 100 votes for long. For those of you still wondering how the people on the top50 list got so many points, well, here's how: t hey voted on all the old submissions that were hanging around in the portal with less than 100 votes. Some people got around 2-3 tousand points in the first week alone! This blam/protect system created a big problem very quickly though: people where just blamming away everything that was submitted, so the NG crew made changes, like hiding the score and the reviews to try and slow down the mega-blammers. It kind of worked, for a while. Then, they realised some people where just voting 0 on everything hoping it would get blammed, that's wen Tom and WADE threatened to ban all the users who where doing this. Since then, the top 50 changes every week. |
PICO |
Bad Ass kid, bad ass vilains, bad ass music and bad ass gameplay made this game the greatest thing to ever hit NG. Pico wa s instantly loved by all and, of course, everyone was craving for a sequel. For all the details on that, go read about Pico when the website is under routine maintenance from 4:00 to 5:00 AM. I personally didn't like that game all that much, I only played it 5 or 6 times... |
THE INFAMOUS CLOCK |
Strawberry clock was the little bastard who inspired the Clock Crew movement, and to this day, I still don't see why anyone would want to be a clock after what this little bugger had done. Well, you can go read the NG history about clocks if you want all the details on the Clock Crew. Now, back to Strawberry. He actually proclaimed himself "King of the portal" and was far worse and more annoying than Tricky could ever be. You see, he had the ( slightly clever) idea of targeting the most vulnerable NG fans: porn-driven 13 year-olds. He made a fair amount of movies where he would ask users to vote five, in exchange of which he promised to make a fantastic porn movie or to open a pop-up window to get some free porn. Of course, he had no intention of actually making a porn movie and I really don't think that he could have programmed Flash to open a Porn site as you voted 5 on his submissions. Well anyways, his movies all stayed on newgrounds and actually where getting decent scores! Until people figured it out... |
P-BOT |
No, the "P" actually stands for "Portal". This little robot dude was created two years ago, and he didn't do s**t! As of late, the little red guy was completely unknown to the vast majority of Ng users, but a man had a vision of a little red bringer of fresh news invading the BBS space to tell us about the recent goodies. When the (infamous) P-Bot post was introduced, many people where sceptical: would he kill the BBS? Is the daily top Five really w orth sending the BBS into the deep shadows of the "second" post on the front page? A lot of users where really pissed at P-Bot, mainly because they felt he was ugly, useless and depriving NG of fresh BBS posts. Tom wouldn't give in to the temptation of sending this robot back into the murky dephts of... um... wherever he came from. P-Bot is still atop the BBS, and people seem to have adapted to his presence. |
THE FDA |
From time to time, Tom and Shock would colaborate and bring us some very entertaining music videos which I recommend you go see right now. FDA was a part of the old Newgrounds, which you can still go check out! --Go into Googles and type "Newgrounds". The old page is the fourth or fift one. Personnaly, I don't like music videos all that much, but come on, can anything made by Tom not entertain? |
Could you believe this guy has an Afro? |
ALIEN HOMINID |
My favorite NG game ever! It just came out of nowhere and it stole the hearts of many many many NGers. This game is tough at first, but don't get discouraged, as it is quite fun an feasible once you get the hang of it. Synj and Tom really had produced something worthy of being the next Pico, or at least to calm the Pico cravings. Unfortunately, Tom promised a sequel, and it looked like it was actually going to be done as he was telling us about all the hard work and cool stuff he and Synj where putting into it. Slowly, hope faded, and Alien Hominid 2 is still not here. But we can't really blame Tom and Synj that much, as they are currently working hard on many other things. But still... |
DOMO KUN |
This wierd furry creature's origin appears to be the I-Mockery website. Upon the day of the release of Domo-Kun's angry smashfest, Tom posted a message on the BBS anouncing a mysterious Game that would be unveiled at midnight that very same day. For some NG users, that may have been the longest day ever. A good deal of people had guessed what it would be, but there was still much doubt about it. Then it hit the portal. Crap! This game was so cool it actually looked like some SNES Rom! And as with most of Tom's games, this was a challenging little biatch! It exceeded everything else in difficulty and graphics. It also became a new source of frustration for many people who couldn't get to beat it ( namely because of the notorious little Red knight s and of a certain purple sack-scratching vilain). |
THE PORTAL |
. Now, for some of the portal's greatest moments and movies. - Back in the day, Street Life was the thing to see! It was number one for so long! -Then, I remember Heroes of Cybertron appeared, by Ortiz. Holy crap! The ani- mation was superb, and the decepticon remix also!. It still his my favorite Flash -Not to long after, the slick "Final Task" was submitted. It was short, but had such smooth animation, plus, it was about samuraïs, so, how could it go wrong? -Then, there was the Britney Dress up Doll. It featured a single fake pic of Britney naked, and, for some odd reason, it was getting an unbelievably high score. Then, it was found out that some coding in it made it give itself a 5 each time someone voted on it ( or something like that). In one day, this Flash dropped 300 places! - Later, a Flash named "Star Wars Gangsta Rap" was the number 1 movie. It was very cool, until people realized it was stolen! It's still on the Portal though. -Then, XiaoXiao started a kung fu stick craze that still lives today in stuff like "Madness Redeemer" and "CounterStick" For all the newer people around here, go watch Portal classics like: The Scrotum series, the Road to Ragnarok series, anything by The Romp and by Ortiz Animation, also, The Pigmy Shrew, Coconuts, The Final Dump,Ellian Wazzup and the Bard's Song! |
CREDITS |
All characters and things in this Flash where inspired by the work of these artists, so give credit to them for the creation of the characters and the nice music loops I have included. Since you nice enough to come read the credits, here's a hint on the secret pics: there's actually 6 of the, and the last 3 are... nice... ;) CHARACTERS: TOM FULP SHOCK THE ROMP JOSE ORTIZ THE CLOCK CREW LEGENDARY FROG ILLWILLPRESS FABULOUS999 BRIAN BEATON BEN SPURGIN I-MOCKERY RAZZO ZEEBARF SYNJ DELICIOUS ERIC BLACK MUSIC: NG70, NG120, NG 201, NG422, NG 441, NG449, NG481, NG542, NG569 |
LESSON 1 |
I hope this "movie" of mine will start a new NG collection, namely a FanArt page. Well, some of you are already pretty good artists, but I'm sure some others would like some pointers. Alright... -First of all, get Photoshop or Illustrator -Then, go here: http://www.howtodrawmanga.com/tutorial/cgmain.html coloring with photoshop. -If you plan on working with some drawings of yours, then you'll need a scanner. -Once you have completed a drawing, save it as a"PSD" file first, for backup. Then, reduce the image to a reasonable size ( usually less than 700 pixels high) so it won't take too much space. Now, save your file as a "Gif", which will take way less space ( but will reduce color quality). -Now, open a Flash movie and import it into a Frame of your movie. -Don't forget to put buttons so that users can navigate through you pics easily. -Don't use shock scare, because you're movie will get blammed. |
Lesson 2 |
Lesson 2 |
LESSON 2 |
Let us explore a very simple technique for making pictures look cool. Look at my third chainsaw guy. Cool isn't he? Here's how this kind of thing is done: -Draw very thick lines when inking (flash does it for you if you're drawing with the mouse. NOT recommended though). -Color everything using a basic color and a darker one for shadows. -If you like, you can color the outlines of your characters and your backgrounds. in a color other than black ( that's what Synj does, to name one of many). -Use the gradient tool for a nice quick background. -Use the solar flare render filter ( Photoshop 6 or higher) to give a "pro" look. -Black backgrounds look cooler than white or pink backgrounds. -If you want a more realistic effect, use the color burn/dodge tool with a soft brush ( in photoshop only) -If you are doing Fan art, try to at least get the colors right, to do so, download a pic of what you want to copy. Then, click on the color picker (colored squares on the Photoshop toolbar) and click on any part of the pic you downloaded to have Photoshop select the exact same color. |

NICE TRY, WISE GUY! THIS TIME, YOU WILL HAVE TO FIND THEM THE HARD WAY! |
IS THERE A PICTURE YOU DIDN'T GET? WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW A BIT MORE ABOUT ONE OF THEM? WELL, INSTEAD OF WASTING PRECIOUS REVIEW SPACE, READ ANY OF THE FOLLOWING PARTS THAT INTERESTS YOU |
PIC 1 AND 2: IT''S P-BOT! I WAS TRYING TO MAKE HIM LOOK LESS STUPID AND DORKY THAN HE LOOKS IN HIS PROFILE PIC. PIC 3: A tribute to Shotgun Man. Doesn't the background look cool? PIC4: Not really serious idea for a new Shotgun Man design. He looks kinda old. PIC5: One of Shotgun Man' victims. Pretty sweet. Hehe... PIC6: The samurai from Samurai Asshole, one of Tom's old games. PIC7: Domo-Kun taking a break in front of his TV. PIC8: Domo-Kun vs The Powerpuff Girls. I think he's winning. I think... PIC9: If Domo-Kun was actually a SNES game, that's what it would look like when you'd lay you mits upon it. How many in-game characters can you spot? PIC10: Some sort or more realistic chainsaw guy from Chainsaw the Children. Blah! PIC11: The Chainsaw guy doing what he does best. PIC12:What if the second stage of Chaisaw the Children was an all-out slaughter fest in the middle of a crowded city? Hmmmm. Bloody... |
PIC13: The guy from Disorderly was doing is dayly floor-cleaning when he stepped in to a puddle of... something. What immediately went through his mind at that moment is: Hey! Dogs aren't allowed in... he..r..e... PIC14: Vengenge on Tricky the Clown. Come on, he tried to make that poor Goth chick suck his wee-wee. PIC15: Synj jumping into action! PIC16: Synj and Horrid battling it out, Manga style! PIC17: Captain Low-Rez. I just had to squeeze him in somewhere! PIC18: A nice view from below the bridge in Sack Smash2003 PIC19: Here you go Tricky! Serves you right! PIC20: A tribute to Club a Seal. Hehe... I like this one. Foreshadowing... PIC21: The Alien from Alien Hominid wreaking havoc on a bunch of crappy Flash movies ( probably submitted by a drunk retarded infant) PIC22: If that little Alien got really big toys like this, it would be sweet! PIC23: Little Alien slashing through FBI forces. Rumor has it that the little yellow guy is actually Bin Laden in a costume. Really! PIC24: Now that's real firepower! |
PIC25: The Good vs The Bad. I think the Ugly (that would be either Strawberry or Tricky) shot himself in the head while looking in the gun's canon to see if it was loaded. Life is a bitch! PIC26: The Clock Crew, at least the official one. I might have missed a few of the IMPORTANT members. Oh well, sorry CrapClock ( see, you're famous now!). PIC27-28-29: Pico, with his new body given to him by Ortizatron, arrives at Strawberry Clock's self-coronation as "King of the Deceportal". Pico's not very Happy since he was thrown out into space by Strawb. after he fought Hominidus Prime ( whom didn't die after all). Pico disintegrates the treacherous little bastard and reclaims his rightful place as "The King". PIC 30: Poor little Scrotum. Too much violence, sex, smoking and drinking always leads to passing out on floors. PIC31: Teletubbies Funland tribute. Yep, they had their fun, but now, they're suffering the consequences of their foolish acts. PIC32: It's Beebo! The Cat That What Has Facial Hair! Or something. Well, anyways, he's resting after a bit of exercise, so, please don't disturb him. PIC33: Some Mr.T. pics you can use in your BBS posts to express your opinions. PIC34: The devil himself beeps Jesus with the famous Beep me Jesus Beeper, one of the original NG features! PIC35: A classical stick animation, with violence and rainbow effects! |
PIC36: See, you CAN actually make stick figures look cool! All you need is a bit of imagination and accessories. And violence. As always... PIC37: The Ship s from Wasted Skies. I loved that game dearly! I even have one of the high scores! PIC38:Yep, it was that little Alien who drove the cab from Crazy Taxi. PIC39: That would be a fantastic scene of street carnage during a game of UFA, one of Tom's first games on NG. It's very creative and the last lever is a real noggin scratcher. I choose not to depict the bonus level, though. PIC40: After the end of Delicious's cartoons, the caracters had to take up crappy gigs in soap operas and B movies. But... Where's Jewish Warrior Princess Syren? PIC41: A good ol Pedro the Gypsi-style game! With a new twist! PIC42:I should have submitted this pic to Cat Dynamics, a few years ago. You can still check Cat Dynamics out on the old NG website. PIC43: Mikey's amazing good looks have attracted the wrong kind of customer! To learn more about this lonely little fellow, check the NG collection of Mikey! PIC44: What if this game actually had a good traduction? It would have sucked! PIC45:The FDA afro dude! What's his name anyways? PIC46: San goku has gone SSJ 18, also know as the Legendary Irish Sayajin! Wow! PIC47: It's a conspiracy!!!!!!!11 PIC48: Ben Spurgin's Stick Slayer with a realistic twist. Very cool. |
PIC49: What if commisionner Kong had been in Tricky-style colors? I wonder if it would be a classic today... Maybe it would have been ever more classic... PIC50: Since I like Star Wars so much, I put some in here. Didn't find the picture of Luke I wanted, though... PIC51: So that tank was a transformer after all! Well, I'll be! There really was more than met... no, I think that's a bit to corny. PIC52: Wade Fulp. Nuff said. PIC53:The holy power-wielding NG god of destruction. No, It's not Tom! He's somewhere else... PIC54: The last Blam/ Protection rank. The wielder of this artifact has his or her power increased significantly. PIC55: Pico and Shotgun Man team up to wreak havoc... somewhere... PIC56: The lengendary Newgrounds Knight. Big sword. Not Cloud's. PIC57: Picobond. Oh yeah! That's what it's all about! PIC58: Maybe some of you find Strawberry very funny. Pico doesn't. PIC59: Picold. It's funny on so many levels! 1. You can see it as Pico-old and as Pico-cold. So his name is in warm tones, but the background is freezing cold! And come on, Richard Simmons! Poor Pico is going to have a hard time not killing anyone. |
WELL, YOU'VE READ ABOUT EVERYTHING NOW... SO, UM, ENJOY THIS PEACEFUL MOMENT OF BLACK SPACE. YÉ! |

THE MUSIC PORTAL |
The most recent addition to Newgrounds' already vast list of fine services. The NG crew saw the fall or free music coming, and since the little biatches who try to make their music so... um... unfree, will cry like babie when they see NG filled with their stuff, NG thought it would be nice to pro- mote the user's musical talents as well as provide flash artists with lots of free sound files. So far, it's going pretty well ( heck, that's where I got the music for this Flash!). Liljim is still working on the system, so ckeck back often! What you can (or should) expect: -Demo before download -Top music artist list -Improved voting system ( whatever it means for you...) With this sound portal, Newgrounds really is becoming an incredible place to get to learn and create with Flash. I think Newgrounds will replace the classes given at different schools in a very near future. Really! We'll beat Flashkit!!!! |
TRENDS AND CULT WORDS |
-WAZZAP!: It's all Budweiser's fault! After this retarded commercial aired, derived versions of this started to pop here and there all over the WORLD! NG got it's fair share of WAZZAP movie. BTW, using this phrase nowadays will result in your ass getting wuped. -BBBBB: Strawberry Clock's trademark letter. For some reason, it's funny. -All ur base: God I'm sick of this! When the All UR BASE movie came out, from somewhere, it was instantly received as "The best". Using wording from that movie seems to be very appreciated by most NG fans. -FiFen, pRon: I don't know where these badly spelled words come from, but they sure give some charm to a crapy movie, or even better, a movie that makes fun of crapy movies! -nOOb: If you don't know what this means, go into the NG forum and post a question regarding either experience points or the Blam Club. You questions should be answered. -1337: A very mysterious number that seems to be adored by the Clocks... -Tricky the Clown. Elusive pedophile clown who flashes his huge dick whenever he finds himself in front of a flashing background with happy music playing. -Clocks. Everyone is a clock now! It's all Strawberry's fault! -Hello, my future girlfriend, this is what I sound like. Check the Mikey section, |
It's waay cooler that chating. Many of the respected people on NG use the BBS to inform people on Newgrounds of what is going on , of updates or interesting material. The best thing though, is the Forum. You can start a topic or reply to an already existing one. This is the best spot to interact with many users at the same time. If you are new here, here's a couple of topics you should NOT start ( or you might look slightly retarded) - Anti Blam Club -I'm retarded -I hate (someone) -Anti Clock Crew -Spam! -Voting Power - I hate Tom Fulp -Let's talk about the blam club -How do I gain popularity? -I like men -Hentaï Pics! -Grrarhg! Well, you can always try to start these topics if you like arguing with people. I guarantee at least one idiot will tell you you're a nOOb and you should shut the fuck up. You can always amuse yourself with these replies. The fun thing you could try though, is entrapement! Make a user hate you so much that he eventually does something really bad and he gets banned for a few day/weeks/months/years/decades/eternities... Some people have really short tempers on the Forum, so it might actually be feasible! Think about that on your next rainy day! |
THE BBS |
TRIVIA |
See if you can answer these without going back to see the pics... They are even harder than Who Wants to be a NG Fan's! -In the FF tribute, what did I add to Cloud? -How many times can you spot Pico or Alien Hominid dude? -Judging from the colors, how many robots did Beebo kill? - How many hidden pics did I say there where, and how many did you find? -In the wasted skies picture, what is the thing that is missing, but should't? - In the last picture of " Pico kills Strawberry Clock", what's missing? - Is Mikey truly that beautiful? Inside, I mean. |
ABOUT ME |
-I've recently been promoted to the title of "Official 18 Years Old". I live in Quebec, and speak French ( proof? : Tabarnak! Crisse! Verra! Ciboire!), which makes me a French Canadi...ack...cough..cough...sorry, I just choked on a frog leg. During the winter, it actually SNOWS up here! I go to the University of Ottawa as an Art student, which does not, I repeat DOES NOT make me better at drawing. It's only my first year, and I'll be damned if I ever learn anything there! I have good grades, which makes me a smartass. I am a very nostalgic person who loves many 80's cartoon, especially Transformers. I have completed every FinalFantasy game available in North America, except FF1. I am a master of Battlefield 1942, I can do such things as killing people by raming them with a plane at full speed and sniping dudes while standing on a flying B17's wing. I joined Newgrounds a while ago, and then left at some point because it was too slow. If Ihadn't left, I'd probably be a level 20-21 by now. Oh well. I've drawn very well since I was very young because I was sprayed with radioactive dust at the age of two. I like biking.I'm unemployed. I make frekent spelling mistaques. I hate learning French more than any American could hate learning Greek (?). The thing I like the most is writing texts like this one, in which the sentences have no logical link with the previous one. I like Pie. A lot. |
